If I had my druthers, I would have a seperate room for the toilet and the bath like the Japanese. I can't think of one real spa that has toilets visible. It puts a crimp in my idea of relaxation yet most designs on websites, I say they actually feature it.
I was realistic about my bathroom when I designed it moneywise. The best I could do was put the back rest of the tub so that I didn't have to look at the toilet when taking a soak. But if I had thought it through, there would have been at least a real bathroom with only a bath. The shower, sink and toilet would have been independent.

Not me, do you know how many times the sound of running water makes me have to pee, no time to be running to different room naked A well kept/clean bathroom doesn't bother me one bit

If I had my druthers, I would have built a sauna in a separate room in the house.

If I had my druthers and enough money, I’d get a walk in whirl pool type tub and get rid of the old porcelain tub. It’s so old and heavy. Sometimes I think it’s going to crash through the floor into the kitchen! I definitely like my big bathroom. Plenty of room and like shellymay, if I hear water...well I’m rushing to the toilet🏃🏻♀️

I haven't taken a bath in probably 20 years. We do have a huge shower in the main bathroom and a separate tub. I wish we had the same shower in our master-bath instead of the tub/shower combo. I don't really need a spa experience. As long as the water is hot that is good enough!!! lol

Some bathrooms have everything in one room, but have the toilet in sort of a closet. Best of both worlds.
Myself, I'd rather not have a tub, I never take baths because I'd have to wash the tub first, and wash it again afterwards. I want a big shower, one you can roll a wheelchair into.

I don't really need a spa experience. As long as the water is hot that is good enough!!! lol I'm just the opposite, I almost can't survive without a tub. We have one of those huge showers in our main bathroom, which my DD uses as she only takes showers. I have a tub and separate shower in my bathroom, the shower hasn't been used in years but the tub is used daily. Never having been to a spa, I can't comment on the spa experience but I have so much pain that soaking in hot water before bedtime is about the only way I can get the few hours of sleep I do. For me it's essential. Someone mentioned not liking the toilet being within view of their tub, which I can understand. In my master bath, the toilet is at the back of the bathroom behind a partial wall, so not visible from the tub. I have a large window (5' x5'?) above my tub...and nothing but farm fields around me...so unless I hear a tractor 🚜 I can open the window (in summer) and enjoy the view of the farms 🐄 🐐 🐖 🐓 and surrounding hills 🏔 while getting the benefit of the hot water. A book, cup of tea, two dogs 🐕🐕 sleeping on the floor and a cat 🐈 perched on the edge of the tub complete the experience. Redneck version of a spa, I guess. 🐾🐾🐾

When I was very ill, I used to soak in a hot tub because it was the only way to warm up. I couldn't get warm on my own. So I can't think that I'd want to be without one.
I prefer a shower for washing but a long soak in a hot tub is good for soothing sore muscles. It uses a lot of water to get the same benefit from a shower, especially as you can't do the total relaxing as you can in a tub.
Anyway the thing I was saying was that having the toilet in constant view puts a ding in my mindless hot soak relaxing. It would not be far away but not in sight.

To get warm, a rice bag on the tummy or chest. The muscles in your core relax and improves blood circulation.

That is the best thing about a woodburner. You can always get really warm sitting in front of it!

Master Bathroom in our house, Toilet is in it's own closet with door. No tubs, but two showers, his and hers. Mine also has a steam function, and both have seats. His and her's vanities with vessel sinks. The Bathroom is huge. This is the last house will ever live in and we wanted it the way we wanted it. Guest Bath also has a shower, no tub in the house. Here is a Picture of My side of the Bathroom.

Daniel, his and her showers? I kinda like the idea of one big shower with spray nozzles on opposing walls so you can shower together.

Melissa, Maura, not that it really matters to this thread but I could not get warm once I got chilled. Being in a warm environment was not enough. I had to soak for an hour in a hot tub or it would be days before I felt warm again. It was the earliest symptom I had of parathyroid disease. Once I had the surgery, I never took another bath unless it was for therapy after a fall. But I still don't want to be without the option.

I can understand your problem. I used to stand in a hot spray to get warm, but not for an hour. I hope you are better now, and stay better.

I had a magic surgery that in essence cured me after ten years of deterioration. I had no idea that my problems were not just normal until they became life threatening. It was a real eye opener for me about how much we assume. I was not just getting older or had an unhealthy lifestyle. I was lucky, so lucky, to find a doctor who listened and figured it out when other doctors had just dismissed the exact same cause.
