When did liquid pectin become so expensive? $7.88 for 2 pks at WM. Any place else much cheaper?

No Amish or Mennonite here. How do you make dry pectin into liquid pectin?

I've been thrilled with Pomona pectin. It doesn't depend on the sugar to jell; and it can be used with artificial sweeteners or no sweetening at all, as long as you have a good acid content. And it costs a lot less!
I got mad when I found out that Sure Jel has dextrose in it. I'm not a fan of genetically modified frankenfood, yet it seems like it's being forced on us from every corner. Pomona is pectin from citrus, and nothing else. It uses a calcium solution to set, and is extremely flexible if you're the type that likes to create your own recipes.
You can find it at Whole Foods, Amazon, and some Ace Hardware stores, go figure.

Horseyrider, some of the make your own pectin recipes are made just from orange pith. Since we usually throw away the peels of an orange, and the pith, it's not like it would cost extra to make the pectin. The most common make your own pectin recipes use apples.
