I grind my potatoes raw, with a small grinder, hooked on my kitchen table. Mix as much flour as I can, in to a big spoonful of grated potato. Then slightly flatten. When all the potato patties are made, I cook them in a big kettle of water. I like to cook up a pork roast and make a lot of brown gravy. Take a patty and put the cut up pork and gravy over it. My family loves these. You will feel full a long time. lol My Mom was from a large family and grew up on a farm. My Grandmother used to make hers into a medium sized ball and cook hers in a pork broth. We liked the meat/gravy better. Anyone else make these?

I like this sort of thing fried BUT it's always good to have an oil free option....especially with gravy anyway.

We make a dumpling with left over baked potatoes adding some finely shredded raw cabbage. These are added to Beef stew. We also make regular raw shredded potato dumplings that we add to potato soup....James

I make potato dumplings! Make them much like you do except I add some salt and pepper and a teasoon of baking powder. I place the raw cut potatoes in a blender with just a bit of water.....just enough to get the blending action going.
I spoon the dumpling batter onto the simmering pork/sauerkraut hotdish that is cooking in the oven or the crockpot. Add the lumps of batter about 30 to 40 minutes before serving the meal.

I've never heard of those with raw potato then boiled in water/soup/stew, I'll have to try them.
I've made gnocchi--mashed potatoes, flour, salt, egg, oil, made in to little noodles with a distinctive shape, we call them 'pillows of love'.

We have an old (Czech) family recipe for potato dumplings - left over mashed potatoes, egg, flour, a T of cream of wheat. Form with a cube of toast in the center, roll in flour, boil. Great with porkchops & gravy. (Make about golf ball size, maybe a tad bigger.) My MIL, who is 2nd generation Am. Swede, says the Swedes would put a cube of leftover meat in the center. A good family friend calls them cannon balls.
