Any thoughts on my problem? Whenever I use my apple peeler, slicer, corer the metal shaft that the apple is stuck onto starts to get black. Makes a black mess on my hands and anywhere it touches the apple. It wipes off easily enough, but if you forget and grab the peeled apple you'll get black on it that you have to wipe off. No idea what the metal is made out of so I could look for something different. I only know that I had paid $20 for it. It has done a fair number of apples (over 1000), but I think it's time for a new/better one. Are there any apple machines out there that will not make the black mess?
Thanks for any thoughts or ideas.

That's an odd one, obviously the acid in the apples is having a chemical reaction to the metal. Never heard of it before, you'd think the manufacturer would have tested their product and changed metals rather than saddle their customers with a problem like that.
My only advice on peelers is: Don't buy the one from Lehman's, it's flimsy to the point of becoming unusable quickly. We just bought an apple corer and I peel them with a potato peeler about as fast.

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll have to do a bit more research on them and see what I can find

We use one from pampered chef, no complaints and would recommend it
