Me too, I looked far and wide. They (lots of official and unofficial sites) just said don't keep the cakes sealed in jars for any length of time, it's not safe, there is no safe way to keep cake in jars for months.
Some of the good ideas come from how portable the jars are with lids. Layered cakes with frosting in jars. I also use the small pints for layered pumpkin, gingersnap crush layer, cream cheese and whipped cream, for deer hunting when the guys are camping out.
Better safe than sorry.

This is a pdf called Recipe In A Jar. It was written/compiled by Lectric Kitty (somebody's great grandma). It was sent to me by Weed , for you all. He saw the thread but hasn't had much time for posting. It's a huge PDF file. It's 159 pages long!! I hope it works.
I put it on our garlic site server which will probably expire in August 2019, so download it for yourself if you want to keep it.

Not to be a Debbie downer, but none of you have mentioned the fact that Ball and Kerr and all of the canning jar companies have come out and said that their jars will not withstand the type of oven heat we use to bake a cake as opposed to canning. Just an FYI

Not to be a Debbie downer, but none of you have mentioned the fact that Ball and Kerr and all of the canning jar companies have come out and said that their jars will not withstand the type of oven heat we use to bake a cake as opposed to canning. Just an FYI It's always good to have more information than less, so I appreciate your information. I'm not going to bake cake in a jar, except in very specific circumstances, and the recipes in the pdf aren't all about canning cake, they are about using canning jars to store the ingredients in soups/stews/cookies/cakes. Probably more for gifts for people.
I noticed the other day, in my drinking glasses=canning jars, that one had a crack across the bottom. I threw it out. Then I noticed a blob of glass on the side of one of them....one in a million, I'll only use for drinking glasses. I think it is good to notice issues with the glasses before they break in a canner or pressure canner.
Anyways, those very specific circumstances...I like using jars for Dh when he goes deer hunting. They are easy to transport and eat out of. He's going tomorrow and I haven't figured out the desserts I wanted to send yet. One more thing I've got to get going on today.
ohiodreamer, I'm glad you took a look and downloaded it. It has so many ideas in it. We have LectricKitty (I don't know who that is), and Weed, to thank for that.
