The north magnetic pole, is moving at about 50 km (30 miles) a year. It didn’t move much between 1900 and 1980 but has accelerated in the past 40 years.

This has happened before. I seem to recall that the evidence showed the shift/reversal accelerated and completed in a very short time by archeological standards.

Just looked it up; The last pole reversal took less than 100 years. However, the poles can "wander around" for centuries before deciding to reverse.

Magnetic pole shifting is distinct from magnetic pole reversal.

Yes, shifting and reversal are not the same; however, reversal starts with a period of shifting, and no one knows when "shifting" becomes reversal. Be interesting to watch when it happens. I am sure that somewhere, someone has studied this and can tell us how many times the archeological evidence can show reversal.
