What do the pros use? Seems we are always clipping something here! (The latest was a long-haired outdoor cat who got into some burdock, ARRGH!) The clippers we've bought off-the-shelf at Wal-Mart or wherever don't seem to last very long. Got any recommendations?

Good Morning*!
I am not a pro*(dog groomer), but I have groomed many dogs with my Oster Turbo's-two speed clippers, that I bought off of Amazon. -http://www.amazon.com/Oster-2-Speed-Professional-Animal-Clipper/dp/B000LRN31A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1430225618&sr=8-1&keywords=oster+a5+turbo+clippers- I have used them for over 100 dog-cuts, with the original blades(have not sharpened yet!). I cut with the air compressor handy, and I quench the head in a solution of charcoal lighter fluid-then lubricate with mineral oil- and they have stayed very sharp- and worked very well. I would highly recommend!

I have some Andis AGC 2 speed. I got it on line at Pet Edge. One of the Pet Smart groomers recommended them and told me it would be much cheaper at Pet Edge. It was. I trim our Goldens with them as well as the Westies. I also had an Oster A5 that I really liked that I used on the horses, but one of the kids either borrowed it or I gave it to them. My vet uses the Oster to clip for surgery, he is not as happy with the new ones.

I have an andis. Bought them 22 years ago. Clipped anything from a cat, to an old English sheepdog. Work like a champ and heavy duty, too.

I have had my Oster A5 since the late 70's. Still does a great job on my Scotties.

Look for something with replacement parts availability over many years. Cheap stuff is meant to be thrown out, not repaired.
