Been researching dog/cat dry foods. Became aware of dogfoodadvisor.com via another thread here. SO-I'm going with Blue Wilderness for the cats and dog. Just got home from shopping-couldn't wait-put a few pieces of kibble in front of them-they love it! Yayyy!! Read reviews various places in regards to some pets refusing to eat it unless that was all they had...Will start gradually mixing it into their food. I hope it helps my one guy-he seems to throw up once a day...And one of my girls who is just a teebit overweight (I'm being nice). Well-gotta go and put these groceries away-just wanted to share! Regards, Mari

I have found that if your dog can skip a meal, let him skip a meal, then start the new food. Mixing doesn’t really make sense.

I used to use Blue Wilderness for my cats... until I had two Vets told me its killing cats... Also lost a cat last year. That was painful and it cost a lot of $$$$. Kidney and bladder stones, renal failure... She was fed Blue Buffalo Wilderness. I do research, lots and lots of research, I "thought" I did enough research on it... but I did not dig deep enough. www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/blue_buffalo.htmlThis is just one page, of the many pages and places to check. I now fed my cats Innova Evo 95% meat canned food and Newmans Own 2nd gen grain free can cat food. Have fed them Dr Foster and Smith, canned food, chicken and turkey... Can cat food is their main meals. For dry food.. . I free feed during the day, use Dr Foster and smith dry, Core grain free dry and Innova Evo dry, mixed. They maybe eat a hand full a day of the dry stuff.

Should've done more research...But you wouldn't expect a food such as this to be rated so highly AND even be out on the market! I am BEYOND mortified. This stuff is going back to the store! I did a little net-surfing this AM-Thought I'd check the BBB-Found this: www.bbb.org/connecticut/business-reviews/pet-foods-wholesale-and-manufacturers/the-blue-buffalo-company-ltd-in-wilton-ct-84001694 Thanks again and I am so sorry for your loss, Mari

Thank-you again...Did some more surfing-How is this crap being allowed to stay on the market?! Went to Petsmart to take it back-never dealt with them before-so I printed off some lit just in case they put up a fight...And by golly I was prepared for one just in case... Girl asks me-"Why are you returning it?" I reply-"Because I don't want my animals to die!"..."What?" So I proceed to tell her about all of the different complaints, etc., -she just gets this dumb/nasty look on her face and says "Well, I've never heard any of that-it is our biggest seller!" So I offer some of the lit I have printed off-she just shakes her head-I told her-"Well, I think it's interesting that when I went to the Better Business Bureau's website they have been rated a big F!!! Once again dull look...my return/credit was so much that a manager had to come up and give her authorization-was surprised that she said nothing... So-in the meantime I talked to my vet-then contacted a SMALL pet shop that carries a limited inventory of supposedly some of the best foods...Now I am going with Grandma Mae's for the time being...Please tell me this isn't a Killer, too! Came highly recommended by the shop owner-supposedly what she feeds to her "babies"...They also carry Canidae/Precise/Orijen brands...Sigh...What I won't do for my babes... Regards, Mari ETA-couldn't come up with a whole lot of info on Grandma Mae's-I hope I am doing the right thing by putting my trust in the owner...will keep searching for reviews, etc.

Oh Great! Just when I thought I'd found a perfect cat food in Blue Buffalo Wilderness.....now this is scaring me. Our kitty eats dry Blue Buffalo as a supplement to canned but I now don't feel comfortable that she is receiving a good diet. Thanks for the info. Now off to check out TSC 4 Health lamb and rice dry dog food. Our dog is refusing to eat food from the new bag.

Mari,
All we can do is research and hope for the best. I do not not know anything about Grandma Mae's.
No pet food places around here carry the food my Cat's eat. So I order it on Amazon. I have prime so I don't pay for shipping, its cheaper than a local pet store any way..and I don't pay tax.
Glad we could help Tami.
Nanny, slowly switch her over... mix the food together, starting with a spoon full and over the next couple of weeks, slowly add more of the new food, until she is totally on the new food.

Whatever happened to the days when we just fed our cats and dogs a dry food from, say, Purina or Friskies, and they lived long and happy lives? Now if you don't feed a premium feed, it's practically considered "pet abuse"! I love my animals, and want them to be healthy, but I'm not all that convinced that the high dollar foods equal a longer or happier life for many pets. I'm not talking about the pet with allergies or digestive troubles, but just the average mutt or domestic house cat. If their coats are shiny, their weight is good, they have energy and are enjoying life, isn't that really the sign of a "good enough" feed? After all, animal "by-product" meal is actually pretty close to what a dog is going to find to eat running around the farm, lol. Just my opinion, and probably not worth more than what you're paying for it.

Thanks Bergere. Today I purchased a small bag of EVO grain free turkey and chicken. Mixed it with the Blue Buffalo. I sure didn't want to toss it yet. Am feeling paranoid about what to buy.

Just my opinion, and probably not worth more than what you're paying for it. Think the quality of the every day dry food 20/30 years ago, was much better and it was made in the US... ALL made in the US. Animals lived long happy lives. Now many companies out source to China... China has no quality control, poor quality stuff they put in food now a days, makes animals sick or out right kills them. Way back when, I had no problem feeding the average pet food.... then all the health issues and deaths started happening. As long as many companies out source their product to China.. I am going to do what I can to make sure they live as long as possible. Some of the by product in some pet foods,, was plastic. Have you ever bought anything that was made in China... and it had Chinese plastic in it... see how the cats and dogs want to eat it no matter what... its that same plastic they put in pet food to get the protein levels up. So, its not simple at all.. like it was in the past.
