I wonder if this has always been the case "sharks close to shore / food source".....but now because everyone has a phone in hand we are hearing about it?
Or, is this an ocean pattern where every so many years, the flow changes, and the sharks are just going with the flow?
Or is the ocean so full of trash, they have to come to shore for food (humans)?
I don't know the answer? Maybe it's a little bit of all 3 above?

laurazone5, non pelagic sharks generally hunt close to shore, in fact most shark attacks occur in only about 3' of water and poor visibility, they tend to be accidental bitings (sharks use their mouth to explore things as we use our hands. In the photos you can see the shark has come in, in response to the splashing of the kids, when it has a different angle on the lateral line it moves back away, knows it isnt the fish it is hunting. Sharks generally will not bite people by choice but by accident, of course an oops for and 3 tonne great white generally a really bad day for the person.
