I had the most amazing sunflower. Just beautiful. Had at least two dozen flowers heads blooming with many more yet to bloom. It was a reseeded Autumn Beauty that I planted last year. I loved going to that part of the garden to watch the bees go crazy, collecting the pollen as fast as they can. I was intending to take photos of it yesterday as it was so pretty. But then Tom came out to tell me it was time to leave, as we were going to Columbus to go to Trader Joe’s and to test drive trucks. Taking photos yesterday never happened.
Early this morning about 4a.m. a really intense storm came through and broke off the most beautiful sunflower in the middle. I am so sad. I still have a patch of Autumn Beauty sunflowers that have started blooming, but none of them are as beautiful as that one.

Oh wow vickilynn , I sure would have loved to have seen that! I just looked up the Autumn Beauty and boy those are beauties! I've never grown sunflowers so that is indeed going to be on my list for next year... now I'm off to find out where to purchase seeds... Thanks for the idea! Take care, ~Mari ETA - Well, I've been spending some time over at Baker Creek and found them there. Wow, what eye candy all of those sunflowers are that they offer. Me thinks I will start working on my wish list for next spring - today!

I love how they look. I grew a row of them many years ago, and they ended up being 10-12 tall, and I took a picture of our babysitter standing in front of them. No idea where that picture is anymore. 2 days ago I saw that north dakota is one of the top producers. I've seen the fields of them in bloom there. I'm going to miss the window to see them this year. www.cnn.com/travel/article/sunflower-super-bloom-north-dakota-trnd/index.htmlI hope you get some pictures vicki.

Mari-You will love growing sunflowers. They are easy to grow, and bees, butterflies, and birds love them. Yellow finches and hummingbirds really like them, and I saw a noisy house wren sitting on one too the other day.

Oh my word I have been spending a bit of time on Baker Seeds today... there are like seven different varieties that I want to try! I thought this one looked really really cool... www.rareseeds.com/red-torch-mexican-sunflower/~Mari
