Humidity is 74% and the wind is calm, not all that comfortable outside.
In the past 18 days in Austin, 14 have been triple digited. I live over 50 miles away from that mass of asphalt, automobile combustion, concrete, and glass in a rural setting and our high is usually 2° to 3° lower than Austin's. They are still at 80° right now.
As a person who grew up in Austin it is a little astonishing watching all the environmentally active people moving in from the left and right coasts, clearing away flora, creating their heat holding world, and constantly demanding ever greater amounts of air conditioning.

I don't know how you can take the heat. It seems like it is hot so much of the year where you are. I'm a happy camper at 60 degrees and cooler to sleep.

The elderly handle neither heat nor cold well. Temperature is Mother Nature's way of kicking us out of the nest, so to speak.

bluemingidiot, I've never been good with high temperature. Even as a child. As a 30 and 40 year old, going in a sauna was torture and I had hives all over from the heat. Hot tubs were just as bad. I don't mind sweating, but the heat takes all my energy out of me. I've gotten better and can tolerate 80 something now, but higher than that and I'm not productive or comfortable. Nor will I sit in the air conditioner (our upstairs bedroom has an air conditioner) all day long. I stay down stairs as long as I can and then go upstairs and almost pass out from exhaustion from the heat, then spend the evening down stairs, until bedtime. The cold weather, I wrap up, layers and layers, housecoat, wool blanket, wool socks, slippers. But I feel good with that.

I don't like the extreme heat either, but the humidity is what saps my energy. The last 2 days have been 90 and humid. I'm not looking for winter, but some more seasonable temps would make me happy. It's supposed to stay above average until the beginning of October here.
Here's to counting down the days!
