I don't normally watch Homesteading Rescue, but it had a Louisiana episode, so I watched it last weekend. You can catch it here, starting at the 52 minute mark... go.discovery.com/tv-shows/homestead-rescue/full-episodes/crisis-callsNow I remember why I don't watch this show. Seven foot ceilings don't work well down here, the rice paddy will not furnish anything for a cash drop and a good sized hog will go through their hog trap like a dose of salts through a widow woman. I also don't think I want a buried storm shelter in a flat piece of ground that holds a foot of water...

I hadn't ever watched that till this weekend. I saw a couple of Alaska episodes. A fence and composter wouldn't hold up around here, much less in the wilderness. They built these tiny garden boxes, but talked about needing to grow food to last 9 months.
I saw one other, where they went into the desert. Same sorts of modest projects for the worst of homesteading locations. And got a well-digger to come out to a dry site, and miraculously drill a well that was yielding 5 gallons a minute. Really?

I thought the Raney family were Alaska homesteaders? Shouldn't they know that situation better than any other?
