As I have said for years homemade bread is just kicks our backside. Even after having friends come to our home and show us. Theirs turns out great. Ours gives the dogs something to chew on. So several days ago I started some sourdough starter and I have been feeding it for several days now. Tomorrow is the day I try it the first time. We will see

Good luck with your sour dough..
We go through cycles.. Some times we will make a batch and use it for a while then drift to something else..
I should say Sweetie makes a starter. Just an easy thing for her. The few times I have tried to make starter, it turned into an angry science experiment that tries to grow out of the jar intent to do damage and harm, seemingly overnight.
Sweeties sour dough is good.. However years ago traveling through Montana, I ran into a little breakfast type dinner. The guy was a cook in the Navy, and camp cook on the Alaska pipeline. He brought back a Yukon starter that was real power house compared to the French style sour dough available most places.. I have never run into that intense flavor again. Love, loved that intense taste..

Okay the bread was baked and really is good. I learned a couple things. Bread needs to be raised in the bread pans. Some butter or oil on top would be good to keep tops from drying out. When putting dough in bread pans make sure top looks pretty, prior to baking. It's a learning process for us so we just need to find tune it. Still feeding my starter and thanks to grannyg, and mogal for the great help

If your oven has a light in it, turn it on and the warmth will help to maintain a nice, warm space for the bread to rise....

That crisp crust is part of what makes sourdough bread special. I really like baking in a hot cast iron skillet with lid. That is the way to bake sourdough!!
