My friend that is making the elastic type of ties has said she has to make a trip to Ben Franklin to get more elastic. Not that you want to go out, I hear that. I'm making the bias tape type ties, from fabric using the Clover bias tape maker (the red one is for 1 and 1/2 inch fabric into a double folded bias tape). It is used for pulling the fabric through and ironing it as you pull it through to keep the folds, which I then starch and iron to keep it crisp. The nurses have said that both kinds are useful. The elastic around the ears ones can pull at the back of the ears after 8 hours of use making them uncomfortable. The tie ones can become untied too. You could check to see if Ben Franklin or Joann fabric has curbside pick up, or try to order on Amazon or Joann Fabric stores. Good luck and have fun making the masks.

You only need a little elastic. you use a closed fabric loop and put 2" of elastic centered. Kind of like putting elastic in the back of our pant's waistband instead of all the way around.
I have a package of elastic you can have.

Just cut up an old T shirt into 1" tubes, then stretch the tubes so that they curl up and use those to make the ties. No elastic necessary. Hopefully this pandemic will not outlast the T shirt material. T shirts last pretty much forever as it is, and you could always replace the ties if necessary. Get to work - the peak is coming! These just need to be functional, not fancy. youtu.be/BktKfYywsXs?t=65

Tallpines, I think that exchange was for making I SPY quilts.

I made a couple masks yesterday. One probably too wide elastic, some really small bungee cord and I'm thinking the t-shirt material is next.

I made 2 more masks and used the t-shirt material for ties (1" pull into tube) I think I like that better.

I made masks with the bit of thin elastic I had and then I switched to cutting up the stretchy headbands. They work much better and I suspect will be much more comfortable. I suspect a t-shirt is much the same.

You all might know this already , but many nurses say that they get sore behind the ears from the elastic. Now many are wearing the headbands with the 2 buttons one on each side to hook the elastic on.People are making them that the masks still can be used but don't cause sore areas behind the ears. Also saw people make Bobbles don't know why they call them that. Anyway it's a sturdy ribbon to go behind the head , lower down ,they each have a button on each side for the elastic to hook on .Apparently males like those better instead of the headbands. The ribbon is about 3 or 4 inches long.

Can use the elastic around the legs in a pair of underware.
For sore spots on ears, rub some powder on the spot.
