Has anyone used them? Have you made them and do they germinate for you? Tom bought a Burpee carrot seed tape for me to try, and I was wondering if they do ok for you. It just seems so easy compared to my stiff fingers planting tiny seeds individually.

I never have used them, but seem like a good idea to reduce both seed waste and thinning. I read instructions somewhere long ago for making your own using toilet paper. The instructions are probably out there online somewhere. I have planted pelletized seeds. They make very small seeds look bigger, and are colored brightly so you can see them better for spacing.

I have used the pelleted seeds and like them but didn’t order any, or rather tried to order too late and they were out of stock. Need to order earlier next year.

I like the pelleted seeds, but they tend to be a little expensive around here.

I have used them 7 times. They never produced what they said. I made my own, and I bought them which was very expensive. I used them for all the tough little seeds like beets and that kind of thing. Burpee was particularly bad. YMMV

Don’t want to waste garden space and money.

In the winter we made seed tape from toilet paper, flour/water mix, put seeds in a white bowl, use your finger to put a drop of flour/water on the toilet paper, use a tweezers to drop a seed onto the drop of paste. Let it dry.
They worked. When planting the hard part is if it is windy it's hard to control the toilet paper in the wind. We covered the toilet paper with a little soil, then wet them down. They germinated.

I have tried it a couple years ago. To me seed tapes are a waste of my time. With that said, I won't be using them...but if they work for you. Give it a try..

I haven't tried this guy's technique but it looks like it would work pretty well for any small seed. He germinates his carrot seed a few days until there is a tiny root then cooks a gel with cornstarch and water. He mixes the seed into the cooled gel. Never mind--look at it yourself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZo4GpjswhU
