So I get a call from the Post Office... they tell me my chickens are here....
Ah..... OK....
Know it couldn't be the Ameraucana bantams....
Turns out... is my 3 Welsummer and 1 Blue Copper Maran, Pullets, I ordered last summer.
No, email..nothing to give me a heads up they were on their way.
Since it is too hot to get a quarantine pen set up (this is why I like a heads up)... I just stuck them in the Bantam shed.
Not ideal, since I have a broody hen in there, hatching eggs out for me.
The last batch had no health issues... hope it is the same this time.
Tomorrow, they will be dusted and de wormed.
Photos to be posted soon.

LOL wrong person Bear Foot! I couldn't take care of as many chickens as Wendy does!! She is super woman.
Now back up to 22 big Hens. Though it will be a month before the Welsummers and Marans, can go into the big Hen house.
Bantams do not count yet (have 20 bantams chicks hatched, more waiting to hatch), have to wait for them to grow up and see how many Roosters I get. Figure I will lose about half of them due to too many boys.

I have 144 broilers, 44 ducks, & around 150 layer chicks. I also have around 50 laying hens. I buy my feed from a mill in Greensburg. The chick starter is around $11 per bag versus almost $20 everywhere else I have checked. I moved the broilers & the ducks out into tractors so they can also eat grass & bugs. Next time I pick up feed I will also get some cracked corn to start mixing in with it. That helps on the cost a little too.

Next time I pick up feed I will also get some cracked corn to start mixing in with it. That helps on the cost a little too. I have 1000/1100 but most of mine are anywhere from a few days old to about ready to lay chicks/young chickens/pullets Included in that is about 150 adult layers and breeder chickens. Right now it is costing me app $200 per week for feed--thats including 3 bags of rabbit feed every 2 weeks(I buy my feed every 2 weeks app $400). I grind corn and mix in supplement to make about 1/3rd of my feed for the larger chicks/chickens which saves alot----home-made feed is about $8.50 for 16% feed. I then mix this homemade feed with some of the store bought feed----50/50 for the layers and 1/3 mixed in with the growers. I use a electric cement mixer for mixing-----works good---takes a little time----I got more time than money.
