Length: 270 Yards; Yarn weight: 3 DK & light worsted Material Primary fiber: Wool
What does DK mean and is 270 yards enough for a scarf, shawl or afgan? Or is that an unknown?

DK is a grist (thickness of wool) measurement. It stands for Double Knitting. It is aka "light worsted". Its is not as thick as worsted yarn but it is thicker than fine, baby, or sock yarn.

feather , Whether that is enough for a scarf, shawl, or afghan will depend on how you knit, crochet it or weave it. The best way to know is to weigh something (a scarf, a shawl, or an afghan) in a similar weight yarn. I will assume your 270 yard skein weights 50 grams? Then if a scarf weighs 100 grams, you will need 2 balls or skeins. If you are a new knitter or crocheter, try Red Heart or Lion Brand's websites for more information - of if you have the ball band, check out THAT brand's website for free patterns and information.

Thanks Wind in Her Hair, I did find the Lion Brand's website, that had the chart for how much of each weight of yarn for each project.
I was looking at some beautiful hand dyed wool yarn one skein of 270 yards for $30ish. I was imagining, crocheting it into a tight or double weave afghan. It would be an investment to buy enough for what I was wanting.
I can't knit and I've tried. I have crocheted since childhood, but not very often in the past 20 years. So I'm just thinking on that wool for now.
