Friday was 107°.
Yesterday was 104°.
Today (Sunday) at 1:07 pm the temperature is 100°
This summer has been the fourth hottest and the fifth driest in local recorded history.
Summertime desert documentaries always show some animals finding shade and just sitting still waiting for the heat to arrive and pass by, almost like a parade. When I was younger I was a heat participant. At 73 I have become mostly a heat spectator. I have recently become aware that as my drought and heat spectatorship increases, so does my complaining about drought and heat.
When we moved in to this house eight years ago we planted a small olive tree. It was a gift from Anne's best friend. Her family has the oldest family owned winery in Texas. The tree was a descendant of olive trees her great great grandfather brought from Italy. Yesterday we discovered a couple dozen olives. Maybe not commercial grade but we appreciate the effort. Kind of like when a kid tries to cook something on their own.
The olive tree is a drought and heat participant.

95 today, increasing every day this week up to the 100 mark. About the same for the next ten days.
Smoke really heavy this morning. Forest fire ragging about ten miles NW of me.

I believe if there is one word that best describes rain, that word would be uncooperative.

Tuesday night at 9:30 pm and the temperature is down to 88°. Not so bad one might think, but humidity is 62%, which puts the heat index up to 96°. And the wind speed is 3 mph. 3 mph is neither a wind nor anything to be considered speed. 3 mph is how fast a turtle walks (if you don't believe me, google it).
