What's on your list of yarny things to make for gifts this season?
My eldest granddaughter (age 8) has requested a balaclava knit in shades of blue. She also suggested that her littlest brother (17 months) could use a warm winter hat too. Her 6yo brother all ready has a balaclava I knit last year, so apparently she doesn't think he needs me to make him anything. LOL.
If I have time, I'd like to whip up some scarves for the grandkids, and some mittens for DS2's significant other.

I'm not knitting anything clothing wise this year. I've started crocheting snowflake ornaments with a stash of doily thinness crochet cotton I rediscovered during a purge. I'll stiffen them with starch and then put one inside each Christmas card I'm sending out. I'd pretty much stopped sending cards in the last few years, preferring to meet people instead...but this year that's unlikely to happen so this is my way of keeping in touch more than by phone.

My niece just gave me this pot scrubber someone had made. She sent me the directions but not what kind of "yarn" it is made of. My husband said untwist a nylon rope. Someone here should know? I am cleaning old canning jars I brought home f/midwest and this scrubber is GREAT! I might make some of these.

They sell similar pot scrubbers at craft sales around here.
They make them with nylon netting.
Cut the netting into long 2 inch strips.
Pull the nylon strips at the ends .... until it no longer resembles a ‘ribbon’ of nylon netting ..... but begins to look like a nylon rope.
Crochet this nylon “rope” into a circle, continuing until your new scrubbie is the size you want.
Ta-Da!

I think they sell some kind of "scrubbie" yarn at JoAnn's
I think this will be the year of scarves for gifts, although knitting most things for guys is boring.

I have made many dishcloth out of Scrubbie yarn and regular cotton yarn crochet together . Makes nice sturdy dishcloth. They went like hotcakes at the bazaar every year. Now making scrubbies out of netting is very time consuming cutting the strips and then crocheting them is hard on the hands I felt.

I am doing apron and matching dishcloth sets. Not sure how many yet. I am 1/2 done with the first dishcloth but my hands hurt so much it is slow going. I used to be able to make 1 every 2 hours.

I knit masks made of mercerized cotton. They are well received.

So far, I've gotten the two balaclavas made for the eldest grandchild and her youngest brother. Thinking about casting on a 3-6 month size sweater for the grandbaby that is due anytime now. It would be about right size for wearing this winter if she grows like her mother did as a baby.
