Two-thirds of the United States should get a warmer than normal winter, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted. Only Washington, northern Idaho, Montana, the Dakotas and northwestern Minnesota, will get a colder than normal winter. NOAA sees the entire south from southern California to North Carolina getting a dry winter.

Our weather seems to like to do the opposite of what's predicted. "Warmer and drier", for instance, has in reality been "cooler and wetter" on several occasions.
A warmer than normal winter up here isn't always the greatest thing. Instead of snow, we get a lot of freezing rain - which translates to ice. I can handle snow, no problem. Ice is a whole other animal - one I'd rather avoid as much as possible.
It'll be interesting to see how the winter weather does play out. The only thing that's certain is that I can't control what the weather does.

Our forecasts for the next seven days show no chances for precipitation so we are ending up with .43" for October.
Next spring the number of bluebonnets on our place will be in the tens instead of the thousands.

We had .02" of drizzle this morning. So for the month of November that gives us a total of .02" precipitation. And since October 1st a total of .45" precipitation.
No precipitation chances in the seven day forecast.

It snowed for eight hours today, a really "wet" snow since it's just at freezing now. It's slippery, but tomorrow it'll be warmer and the snow will melt away.

We got about 6" of snow last Saturday. So glad to have a covering on the fields and garden beds. Plus, the trees I planted this year need the extra water. Now our temps are cold and nothing has melted yet. Supposedly, the temps are to come back up into the 30's and possibly 40. That's not enough to melt the piles we have. I sure hope we aren't going to have a dry winter, snow is needed for the health of everything around here - flora and fauna.

After an unusually cold and snowy October (I want to say we got at least 10 inches of snow over the course of the month, which is a lot even for us) November and December (so far) have been warm and dry. We missed out on the snow that areas south of us got last weekend, and at this moment it looks like we have maybe 1/4 of an inch of snow on the ground. Actually, that's on the deck - the ground is showing through in a lot of places, so even less there. We have a couple of chances for snow showers over the next 10 days, so we'll see what that amounts to. But so far, yeah - we're more drought-y than blizzard-y.

It’s been rather mild here, 30’s at night, but 40’s during the day. I was getting spoiled. Now tomorrow afternoon into Thursday mid day, we’re supposed to get 12”-16” of snow.
I sure hope they’re wrong like usual.😋

We have received less than ten percent of normal snow fall, so far. Does not look good for the next ten day either. Sure hope something happens or it’s going to be a long forest fire season next summer. We depend on the snow in the mountains for our irrigation water also. No water, no crops. We won’t have a apples to sell all you folks!

Just started snowing...looks like it’s gonna be hard, heavy snow...still predicting 12” or more.
I must say it looks very pretty and spiritual with everyone’s Christmas lights on at dusk, with the snow falling ❄️ ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

Just heard on our local news channel that we got more snow yesterday into today, than all the snow we had since 2016. That sounds right. 2016 was also ice skating wherever you like here...my yard was all ice for weeks. Never would have made it to the driveway without my Yak traxs❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

We got .87" rain. That gives us a total of 2.2" for the three months of fall. Heard thunder for the first time since the middle of September.
Distant thunder is entertaining and even comfortable. These feelings diminish with proximity and volume. Rain can be peaceful depending on the quantity. Large quantities of rain can sound angry, even hostile

Well last week we had the snow storm and now it’s going to be in the 50’s and hard rain tomorrow on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day.
Then on Christmas Day it’s going down to 20, high winds...so everything will be ice.
Still dangerous walking here from the storm last week. I wore my sneakers. Our yard is partially melted and the roads appear clear. I almost fell twice on my walk, once as soon as I got to my driveway there are spots of snow and ice that didn’t melt, whoops almost went down then at the end of my street again Black ice, really twice I felt God protected me today. Thank you Lord...last thing I need is another concussion.

We have gotten 4" of rain so far this month. Below freezing a few nights. 1 light dusting and everything was icy the next day.
looks like rain Xmas eave and a high of 30 on Xmas. So far it's about normal.

It rained yesterday, which melted most of the inch or so of snow we had. Then it snowed overnight - and there's now an inch of snow on the ground. Funny how that happens. Single digit temperatures today, with high winds. I'm staying put. Stay safe, Woodpecker . So glad you didn't fall! Black ice is the worst. I fully expect we have some now after yesterday's rain. Mostly likely hidden under the light snow. Another reason why I'm staying put. |

Yesterday (Christmas Eve) it rained. At noon the thermometer read 51 degrees. Temperature dropped all afternoon. About 8pm it turned to sleet, then to snow. This morning there was an inch plus at 15 degrees. Noon now, 17 degrees, lightly snowing, wind blowing. DH measured 3 1/2 inches about an hour ago. Quiet, very few cars on the road. Saw a fox cross when we first got up. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Like I said in a previous post, we had an inch of snow one day. Rain took it away a few days later, but then the temperature dropped and we ended up with that inch of snow on the ground again. We'll technically have a white Christmas, but nowhere near the snow we normally have this time of year. Supposedly...maybe...there's a winter storm heading our way mid-week. We'll see if it does give us a dump of snow, or if the snow once again goes south of us. |

Looking at weather information in todays paper for us:
Rain. This year so far 4.35”. Normal 7.95”
Snow. This year .4” Last year. 3.7” Normal 10.9”
It has started snowing this afternoon, they do say 2 to 4”, As fine as it is most likely will be the 2”. Hope it changes in the next 60 to 90 days or can sure see a long fire season.

We had a 6 inch snow about a week before Christmas. Rained on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Rained all day today with more coming tomorrow. Whether we get any more snow or not, I don't think we'll have to worry about a drought next summer! And now that Christmas is behind us I fine with our precip coming in liquid form!

The weather forecast is for winter storm, tho not really indicating too much depth. Northern California mountains may really get pounded, up to 100 inches of new snow at the higher elevations. Don’t think my tractor mounted snowblower would be of much value in a storm like that.
