Tomorrow my husband and I are going to pick out my first chicks! I am so excited!!!! I am getting 8 of them (to start with ;-) the brooder is cleaned (it was a rabbit hutch) and ready and we will get food and a feeder/waterer along with a light and a thermometer. I can't wait.

You do indeed sound excited! It is so much fun... Let us know what you bring home! Just my humble opinion-if you haven't already-I'd pick up a copy of "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens". It will help in a multitude of ways but will not answer EVERY crazy situation that may arise-that is what fun forums like this one is for! Keep us posted-pics are always welcome! (Hint hint)

Well, I tried to post a picture of the chicks, but it said the file was too big? Anyway I ended up with 10, 2 each of:Easter Eggers, Goldens, buff orps, brahmas, and barred rocks. They are the cutest little balls of fluff I have ever seen. They are 1 week old. Everyone is eating and drinking well and chirping.

My DH and 4 boys built the first of 2 coops today. I got chickens and coops for my Mother's Day gift! DH tends to go all out on Mother's Day for me. Is that a cool gift or what?!?! Attachments:

We are a rare bunch that are happier with a coop instead of flowers!!

Aaw, those are the best little bouquets - picked with love.
Your chicks look happy, and I love the coop.

Nice assortment of breeds. You prepared ahead of time & have your family on board, which predicts good results! Kept us up to date please!
