Hi All. I got a fishing magnet 2 yrs ago....right before I fractured a tibia....and never used it to fish out an interesting mineral found in our local creeks which was my original Plan, lol. So, anyway, I had the thing (big magnet-on-a-rope )and today I spilled AA batteries behind a shelf that was in my closet-pantry and blocked...by about 200 lbs blocked. I don't know How the small box of batteries got put where it could fall back there but sometimes I "dig around' in the pantry and don't pay attention to where I set things! lol. So, I Finally used my "play" tool! haha. I fished out batteries and instead of a stupid task easily avoided and me being angry at myself....well,it was kinda fun! DH is going to drag my 'tool/toy" along the huge gravel driveway we have for fallen nails, washers, nuts, bolts and screws soon, since we pick up stuff from before we were here, all the time out there.
I Still want to use my magnet for "fun" by fishing for metals and a mineral along rivers here some day. All kinds of lost items get found. Some of vids I've watched are really amazing. A guy in a big city pulled up an antique bicycle from an aqueduct!! Usually knives, screwdrivers and that sort of thing are found. Has anyone here used a "fishing magnet" ??

No I haven’t even heard of a fishing magnet. My girl loved fishing & metal detecting. I’m sure she’d love a fishing magnet🧲
I hope you find lots of treasures ! 🐠

Have given 2 of them to grandsons for gifts.
They have taken them along on 3 day river/kayaking/camping trips .......
Last summer one of them was used to locate an anchor that had gotten lost at the bottom of the lake. The magnet was not strong enough to lift the anchor from the bottom, but the magnet attached itself to the anchor. Then the teenagers were able to dive and follow the rope to the anchor ...... and lift it back to the surface.
This was a joint effort amongst 8 cousins ...... they all had a great FUN getting it done!
The magnets come in multiple sizes ...... They can lift a wide variety of weights. I think the ones I bought will lift about 80 pounds ...... added 30 feet on nylon rope to each one ....... less than $15.oo each! Bought them at the local Mennonite Hardware store .....
The grandkids love them.

I dragged my magnet around the shop door beyond the steps today and a couple of swipes over part of the gravel driveway for a bit of fun. I was glad the driveway was fairly clear except for tiny rusted screws and small magnetic pebbles. I "fished" larger screws and nails from outside the shop door though and was glad to remove them. Too bad gold and silver aren't magnetic! It makes me wonder if I should have gotten myself a metal detector instead of being Only a rock hound. haha
