I have a one year old weenied heifer and a bred heifer, that is due any day. This morning I noticed the young heifer is sucking on the bred heifer. Should I try to separate them or not worry about it?
Thanks

The sucking can lead to mastitis, and even ruin a teat! I'd put a weaning ring in the younger heifer's nose if I were you, especially if these are milk cows.

Separate them or put a blab in the nose of the sucker. If she doesn't learn to get over this behavior, ship her or eat her. She is a thief, stealing something that isn't hers. This can ruin the udder of the bred heifer, and takes the colostrum that the new calf needs.

Get them separated.
