This is just a story but I thought I'd share my experience. I gave our two Nubian does their annual CD&T booster (sub q, behind where the front leg meets the body, massaged in etc.) Goat 1 - Eleanor is our drama queen - takes the shot, paws once with that leg on the milk stand, stands down and resumes eating alfalfa. Cool, I think. Goat 2 - our calm and placid Katherine - takes the shot, squeals, paws the ground, jumps off the milk stand and dances around. OMG, I've hurt her. I'm trying to get her, to massage the meds in and make sure she's ok. Get her calmed down. 3 hours later, come out to find Eleanor sun bathing and Katherine laying down out in the pasture (not normal). I call her, she just looks at me and bleats - uh oh. dash out to her, nope, not getting up. Try to lift her to her feet, nope, not happening. I'm really worried now, better get DH. I run up the pasture, into the barn to ring the emergency bell (brass bell with a rope and knocker). This means - wherever you are, if you hear this, you better come running to the barn. Reach up to yank the rope, look behind me - Katherine is standing there with her head to one side, grinning - I swear, she was laughing at me. She had to have jumped up and run up the pasture behind me to be there that quick.
Goats are brats.

Goats have a serious place in animal-human relations- to make us laugh at ourselves. I enjoyed your story telling.

LOL, cute story, mzgarden. I totally relate! One thing I cherish about goats is how they are fully in the moment. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it with their whole hearts. I try often to take a page from their instruction booklet. More than once, I’ve looked out into the pasture to see a goat lying prone, panicked and dashed down to make sure she was all right. “Oh, yes,” the eyes say. “All is well. Now, get out of the way – you’re blocking my sunshine!” I love how blissed out they get when I scritch their faces. Eyes roll back and close, a little smile comes, and so far as they’re concerned you can carry on doing that for as long as you like, thank-you-very-much! If I give one a little shove on the backside with my foot to move her out of the way as I make my way up to the pig pen loaded down with hay, it cracks me up how the battle is ON. Skip, skip, turn the head, give a little jump and ALMOST head butt. “How DARE you insult my nether regions in this impertinent manner?” Skip, skip, skip, all the way to the gate. They are brats, for sure. But so wonderful all the same! Bratty goats steal our hearts, don’t they?

One of my goats is old and fat and walks like she is on her last day of life. Then when I walk out and holler "Time to eat" she skips sideways all the way to the goat shed with a couple of jumps and twists mixed in. Always the first one in to be fed. God made goats for our entertainment.

And, sometimes I think God made us for our goats entertainment, Hank.

And, sometimes I think God made us for our goats entertainment, Hank. Yes, yes he did, and I know that to be true, because my goats said so. Every time I walk into the barn they look at me with that "What are you going to do for us today?" look.

Honestly, you guys bring tears to my eyes. God made a mistake - believe it or don't - by putting me in the city. Ever since I can remember I've wanted to live in the country and have a farm. This story is just another reason that I can't wait until I retire!!!! (Then I'm going to have 2 or 3 goats at my son's house!)

You have layers - onions have layers! One of my favorite Shrek lines.
