Think the problem I have w/putting on lids and damaging gaskets is, I'm short-5 ft, don't think I can put lid on right, when it's on top of stove. I'm going to try doing it on table. Concern is, it's too heavy to carry to stove. We learn to compensate due to age or other limitations. I know this is funny. I'd laugh too, if it wasn't so frustrating.

Suggestion: So you don't have to lug the cooker from the table to the stove when it's full, try a small step stool at the stove. One of the folding types?

osiris Thought about what you posted. I have one of those folding ladders. Concern is I couldn't lift canner off table, when it had jars, water and lid. I really believe; if you think about something long enough, a way will be found. Maybe this is what you meant. I have a small white stool--maybe 8-10 in high. I'll try using that in front of stove. Thanks for your input.

I have a really small kitchen, so I usually set up a card table or tray table to give me more space by the stove. A little stool or ladder should help. And let you do step aerobics while canning

I just meant to put the canner on the stove before filling it. Use the step stool to fill it. That way you don't have to carry a full canner at all. Same to open it when it's done.
