stickinthemud, that is cool.
When we lived in AR in the mid 90's, I heard a huge droning noise outside--windows, doors closed and the bees were so loud, I could hear them in the house! Bees everywhere. I called friends of ours about 50 miles from where we live now and they talked me through how to capture the swarm. I was so excited. Unfortunately, they stayed a day or two and were gone.
The first summer we were here, I noticed a cluster in a crabapple tree in the front yard. DH and I suited up, got a smoker, set up a hive box and cut the limb to move to the hive. So cool! We had a good march but couldn't stay long enough to watch the whole process. We had an appointment in the next town north. That swarm must have been unhappy with their new digs because they didn't stick around either. Oh, well. Fun experience though.

When I was a kid we had special hive bodies my dad made that we'd connect a vacuum cleaner to, and we'd suck the bees right into the hive. Worked great, fast, they didn't get agitated, and always got the queen and almost every single bee. Of course, back then, vacuum cleaner hoses were smooth on the inside; wouldn't work with the corrugated hoses they use now. But it wouldn't be too hard to find some kind of smooth hose that would work.
