I find a surprising range of prices when I look for flour!
Tell me what you know …. Tell me about your experience with the different brands.
Which one is the best choice. Will the $5.oo brand yield me a better result than the $2.oo bag?

I've tried all kinds and couldn't tell one bit of difference between them. I just buy the store brand unless another brand is on sale cheaper.

I like unbleached white flour, white whole wheat flour, and regular whole wheat flour. I usually buy Kroger brand but if Hodgson Mills is on sale I will buy it. Their white unbleached flour feels like silk. I don't think it makes much difference in normal baking though. I won't use bleached flour other than that we aren't all that picky!

I agree with you Melissa. I don't find any difference in brands, but I only buy unbleached flour. And I never buy self rising flour, but mix my own so I don't have to store another type of flour long term.

Another unbleached flour user here! Although for bread, I use whole wheat and unbleached all-purpose, in about a 60:40 ratio.
As far as brands go, I too haven't noticed much difference between generic/store brand and the name brands.
What I have noticed, though, is that for the last year and a half getting either whole wheat or unbleached is hit and miss locally. So if I see it in stock, I buy 10 pounds.

I use mostly Any organic for AP, King Arthur (KA) bread flours, KA or Bob's Red Mills organic for WW, and again both of those last 2 for wwpastry flour. I convert almost every recipe that includes white flour to 1/2 ww and 1/2 AP or bread flour. So I go through a ton.
