We are not feeling well so we stayed home this morning and did “TV Church”. From there the channel surfing led me to a garden channel. Oh My Goodness! I am currently experiencing a plethora of mixed anticipation! Think I will be bringing my Aero Garden set-up in from the garage and planting a few seeds. Perhaps susannah will tell me more about the seed she calls Easter Radish. Too early to start tomatoes? I have a couple varieties of tomato seed from Martin that I really hope I can raise successfully. I don’t want to start them too early, but, want to get an early enough start to get me through to harvest. I have never had a good track record with starting plants from seed, and I certainly don’t want to loose out on these. I have very few seeds from this variety. The two that I MOST want to be successful are Gospodar and Bobbie. Yup … the garden fever has STRUCK! Anyone else? .

Me! Despite having a basement garden and having grown a couple varieties of lettuce, scallions and - yes - Easter Egg radishes for the past few months, I am champing at the bit to do some outdoor gardening. Unfortunately, the garden area is buried under snow and while the temperature was seasonal today (for late January in northern Wisconsin that is), we'll be going back into the deep freeze later this week. So I have a few more months of garden dreaming ahead of me. I loved my Easter Egg radishes and will definitely be planting those outdoors when the time comes. Right now I'm getting mostly purple radishes, while earlier I was anxiously awaiting my first purple radish since all I seemed to get were red and pink with no purple. Although reading the description again, I see that I have not gotten any white radishes. Yet. No way of telling what I'll get with each planting but it's a nice surprise. Here's a link to the site where I bought the seeds - it gives a little more info: www.botanicalinterests.com/product/Easter-Egg-Blend-Radish-Seeds#:~:text=Easter%20Egg%20Blend%20is%20a,top%2C%20white%20base)%20radishes.&text=As%20a%20spring%20radish%2C%20they,choice%20for%20gardening%20with%20kids. Edited because I couldn't get the link to work the way I normally link things.

Getting antsy, for sure. Then I walk outside and slip and slide everywhere I go. Kinds brings me back to reality.
Seldom do I start seeds in the house before the middle of April. It always makes things late, but try to do some traveling during the early spring, so gone few a couple weeks at a time. Hard to take care of things doing that. By the time the late planted items are ready to go out, the frost danger has mostly passed. Always buy tomato plants, too difficult for me to mess with starting seeds. For the most part have just as good luck planting some item direct in the garden, ie, squash.
My biggest problem is wanting to get moving in the garden before I should. Hard for me to wait till the soil warms to plant at the correct temperature. Seems like I check it numerous times a day, guess I think magic will happen.

I start getting garden fever right after Christmas every year! Last year I started my plants too early so I'm trying to be better about it this year. Plus I want to get more day old chicks and I usually pu the brooder on the same table I start my seeds on, so I may have a bit of a traffic issue this year.
But looking out the window or opening the door for the dogs to go out is enough to make me rethink any early gardening!

Even I am getting garden fever. I haven’t planted a large garden in over 10 years. I’m getting a big branch on an evergreen cut off this spring that’s blocking all the sun on the garden area. I won’t plant a huge garden, but really want to plant lettuce, peppers, tomatoes and some basil. Those are what I’ve come up with so far, but may add a couple other veggies.
We’ll see how my back is able to do the weeding etc and my shoulder. Hopefully by summertime, I’ll have the reverse shoulder repair done.
I’m hoping the butterfly and hummingbird flowers I planted last year, come back strong and attract them like they’re supposed to. I have milkweed seeds that need to be planted near the other flowers, too.
It’s 36 and sunny, but the roads had a lot of black ice in spots. I was very careful for sure this morning on my walk. These warmer temps really bring spring fever out in me too! 💐🌺🍅 🫑

I have milkweed seeds that need to be planted near the other flowers, too. I’ve not tried it yet, but, I’ve been told that you can sow Milk Weed seeds NOW! Just lay them on top the snow in the area where you want them to grow. The cold will not damage them. As soon as they reach the ground and it warms adequately, they will begin to germinate, giving them the earliest possible start. I have about 200 seeds that I sorted out of the pods I had saved last fall. Did this just a few days ago and I still have some stray Fluff floating around 😃. Will lay these seeds atop the snow in the next few days …. I have been enjoying my journey with raising Monarchs the last few years!

Thanks for that info Tallpines, I think I’ll lay half of the seeds on top of the snow tomorrow in one area I’d like to see the butterflies from the sun porch. Now I’m really excited!!!! That must be fun raising Monarchs, they’re so very beautiful. I need to place an order in February for the live release of the Monarchs for Megan’s birthday at her resting spot. It’s so spiritual. A couple of years no one had any, so I ordered Painted Ladies instead. They’re not nearly as beautiful as Monarchs.

A butterfly release is a wonderful tribute to Megan. While we love having you with us, we still miss Megan. I think of her every time I see a woodpecker. And I think of Loretta often too!

Thank you countrymom22, for your kind words. This forum and Megan's friends were really important to her. I wasn't sure what to do about being on here, instead of my precious girl. She was one very special woman in life and such a strong Angel now! Megan sends the Woodpecker every year, so far, on her Heavenly Birthday and on my birthday the day before. I am always looking and listening for Woody Loretta is missed here by me, too...her chicken friend, who followed Megan wherever she went and would hop on Megan's lap while sitting on the deck. She was a special chicken for sure, for my special daughter.
