I've had a lot of cats over the years but many were adults that came already neutered from a privately run rescue/rehab in Columbia. The couple who ran it are no longer with us so I'm responsible for seeing that any cats we've gotten in the recent past or in the future don't contribute to the feral cat population around here. To be honest, I've never gotten "up close and personal" with our cats, checking their private parts, although I do spend a lot of time petting and cuddling them.
Which brings me to...A couple of weeks ago, someone posted a link to a video of a baby playing with a kitten in a manner that could get the baby scratched or bitten. I told about a recent encounter with a weanling kitten my neighbor's queen brought to us (gee THANKS, not!) where the kitten bit me and on the orders of my PCP, I had a new tetanus shot and a round of 2 antibiotics to make up for my allergy to a more effective one.
Since it appears that said kitten has chosen this as HOME, I made arrangements for her vaccinations and to arrange for her spay. Vet picks up kitten, checks its posterior and says no that she's a he! I hadn't seen anything but she assured me "they" were small but definitely there. Fine with me. Neutering a male is far less expensive and requires a shorter recovery time than spaying a queen and until HIS appointment, I don't have to worry about estrus and unwanted kittens. YEAAA. His surgery is scheduled for later this month. Bite me, will you!
Learn something every day, right?

There’s you mogal, and so many more just on this forum that take in all these abandoned cats. We don’t have any feral cats here that I know of.. All here are indoor or outdoor and indoor cats, loved by their owners. I thank you for taking care of these cats that find you….I realize they help you too, but you have a big ❤️ For taking all those cats in your care.

Don't feel bad, mogal. I've had barn cats my entire life and unless they are adults and it's obvious, I can never tell whether they are male of female. Maybe that's why I love calicos, cause I know they're girls!

Really, I think the only reason I bring the kittens to the vet for "vaccinations" is to find out if it's a he or she.
