Better you than me. I'm not in any hurry for winter. I want to enjoy Fall, preferably for about 6 months!

I'm with Countrymom22 but then, I was born and raised in the South where we could get some heavy snows but they'd be all gone within a few days. These were 12-14", something even what you of a more northern persuasion would call a lot of snow.
We've already had a couple of frosts heavy enough to take out the tomatoes, peppers and my beautiful roselle but starting around 9 tonight through tomorrow morning and again Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, we'll drop to the mid 20's. I have 6 more container plants to bring in and I want to dig up my stevia and lemon verbena in hopes that I can keep them going until late winter and take cuttings from them. We don't have the hoop house covers on yet so the chickens will get pretty chilly tonight in the hoop coop that's open on both ends. The chickens that go into the roosting area should do fine.

They are saying a dusting is likely tomorrow and tomorrow night, here. I'd say that within a week or so of normal for here. It will be a "dusting on the grassy areas" only. But it was enough of a warning that we brought wood in over the weekend. I'll make the last picking of pole beans and green peppers today then start pulling plants.
I should probably toss the chickens some corn tonight to heat them up in the coop.

Calling for flurries the next few days here in SE Ohio. I can't seem to get used to the cold anymore.

Calling for flurries the next few days here in SE Ohio. I can't seem to get used to the cold anymore. You're getting old. Next you will have trouble getting used to the heat. Finally, the only times you will be able to tolerate is a week in the fall and a week in the spring.

2022-10-21.... We were predicted to get rain if not a skiff of snow last night... This prediction has been set back a day at a time for the last 2-3 days of new 7 day forecasts.. Nothing yet.. Knock on wood.. --- I can't seem to get used to the cold anymore. Yes... This is slowly getting more and more an issue for me.. --- You're getting old. Next you will have trouble getting used to the heat. Finally, the only times you will be able to tolerate is a week in the fall and a week in the spring. --- Must admit, slowly getting to that stage of life.. Yes.... I'm pretty much at that stage of life now...

I'm at that stage myself. Not sure exactly when it happened, but with the exception of snow for Christmas, I think Spring should start on December 26th.

Holy COW! Heard on the local news this morning that a large area of IL and MO south of St. Louis had nearly SIX inches of snow. While DH and I were out tending the animals this morning, he pointed out that we were getting some flurries. I told him I was ignoring it in hopes that it would go away. The WX guy on our ABC affiliate mentioned some accumulation later in the week. I'm so (NOT) overjoyed at the prospect. Except for 4 years in the early 90's, we've lived in MO since '78. During that time, I don't remember an accumulating snow until Thanksgiving and some heavy snows in early December but never this early in November. I'm so grateful DH is retired and no longer traveling around the country for his job!

Crazy, it’s 74 here now, going down to 40 tonight. I wore shorts and a tee shirt on my walk this morning…I just noticed they’re Iris’s coming up near Mother Mary statue & one at my daughters.
Flowers again in November, even they are confused!

DH and I are in from doing a midday check on the critters and setting up a heated dog bowl for the chickens in the hoop house. We are getting some snow flurries. ARRGH! DH talked to a friend in Little Rock AR this morning and they were only supposed to reach 40o today. That's what was forecast for us but right now at 2 p.m. it's only 30o. I'm so not a fan of winter. SO not a fan.
When I was a teenager still living in MS and wanted to go riding, I never used a saddle in winter. My kind, gentle horse's back was nice and warm and to make him more comfortable, I didn't use a regular bridle, just a halter and lead rope.

ARRGH! We're under a winter weather advisory from late this evening until 9 or 10 tomorrow morning. The WX guys are talking as much as 2" of snow which isn't a lot. Unfortunately, folks around here seem to forget how to drive in snow over the summer so the first storms, no matter how small, tend to be dangerous. And, wouldn't you know? DH is scheduled to work setting up another auction tomorrow.
We've managed to corral all our chickens except for 2, a hen and a pullet, that insist on roosting higher in a tree than 6'2" DH can reach. If it were a cedar or a pine, I wouldn't worry about them so much since that would provide at least a bit of shelter but it's an oak that has lost its leaves. I've set traps in a dog crate for them without much success and my next/last option is a live trap that might catch one if they will enter that enclosed space.

It occurred to me this afternoon that the 2 escapees might follow the free-ranging rooster into the main garden space that we use as a chicken run in winter to eat some cracked corn. THEY DID! I closed that end of the fence and netted both. Well, I netted the hen and the edge of the net trapped the pullet's foot to the ground. Once I had them in their hoop house with the rest of the flock, I opened the fence gap again so the rooster could go to the barn where he sleeps.
The storm is already knocking at the door as we are getting a little rain. I don't have to worry about them being up in that tree with no protection.

Glad you got them all caught. I've never had a problem with our chickens roosting in trees, thankfully. I did have one stray rooster that showed up who refused to roost in the coop in his older years. He roosted on the fence by the driveway until something got him one night. I never did figure out why he suddenly stopped roosting in the coop, or where he came from originally.
We are expecting colder temps for the next week, about 10 degrees below normal. Guess we have to pay for last week's 70's. It's supposed to rain/sleet tomorrow night but no snow for us. Yet. It will be snowing at my mom's and sister's house though.

The snow started much earlier than predicted. It's 7:30 a.m. and still snowing a bit. We've got about 3" out there right now. At least the ground was warm enough there's not much accumulation on the roads according to the news. I am not a winter person.

It was freezing for the first time this year last night. It's supposed to be snow & slush, rain later today. If my son is putting the plows on at work, he will not be a happy guy when he gets home

Woke up to 26 degrees this morning. Time to break out the hat and gloves when I go out to feed. Brr!
Right now it is raw and raining. But at least it's not snowing!

First snow came today. Started with a few wet flakes. Piled up a coating on grass, cars, shed roof. But now its melting and getting foggy.

Stickinthemud, that sounds like my kind of snow. It was very pretty hanging on the trees out in the woods yesterday morning but by nightfall, only patches here and there so as to not build up as ice in the roads. It was too little to plow the roads but could have been a mess anyway.
