Last night we were watching a program on PBS about woodpeckers. We have a mature cat of undetermined age that we got 4-5 years ago from a shelter and he's a real sweetie, affectionate, curious and well mannered in the house. So, DH called me in from the kitchen saying "Your cat is watching TV." And he was. Totally enthralled by the birds on the screen, their sounds and such. He sat through the whole program and only once did he move and that was to stand on his hind legs to get a closer look at the screen. While I've had dogs react to sirens and howling on TV, never have we had a cat interested in it before. Maybe we haven't seen enough nature programs that would interest them.
His name is Smudge for the black mark on the end of his nose as though he'd touched it to black paint.

That’s too funny mogal,…I too was watching the Woodpeckers last night. I had no idea how many different kinds there are! They’re so beautiful, fun show, even for your cat! 😅

Lots of people have cats that react to the TV. They even had a cat specific programming at one point. Some people put the TV on for their cats to keep them busy when the have to be alone. Might be ridiculous, but people will pay good money for anything that entertains their pets!

It's a little late, but....
Once we had a cat that liked to watch Wonder Woman. He would hear the theme music start and run to the tv, and then sit there in front of it until the program was finished.

Our dog Dozer sits with me and watches Pit Bulls & Parolees. At times he'll get up and go stand directly in front of the TV. Sometimes he barks along with the TV.
You can't tell me he doesn't know that there are dogs on the screen.
He's going to be very sad that his favorite show has ended.
