Has anybody made ghee? I've looked at a # of videos on YouTube but some are contradictory. I bought some store brand butter and tried doing the cooking in the Sun Oven as Stacy on Off Grid with Doug and Stacy did. I managed to pour off all the fat portion into 3 jars then the stuff on the bottom of the pan into a 4th. I'd heated the jars in the oven so I wouldn't risk thermal shock breakage and all 4 sealed just fine. I plan to store it in the frig regardless. I tasted a bit of it before I poured it into the jars and I don't know if it weren't fresh in the first place or if the long cooking changed the flavor. It's not nutty tasting to me at all. I'm too cheap to throw it out so will probably use it on stronger tasting savory things.
Please share your experiences. TIA.

"The texture, color, and taste of ghee depend on the quality of the butter, the milk source used in the process, and the duration of boiling time."

I have never made ghee, I just can butter. I'm happy with those results. I have opened jars 7 yrs old and they are as fresh as the day I canned them. I can in 1/2 pint jars, so I don't have too much to deal with once open.
