Yesterday afternoon, DH and I went out to the shop to discuss a project we hope to complete soon. In the path out there lay a piece of limb wood about 5" in diameter, 18" long or so. It took me both hands to pick it up to put back on the wood pile. As we came back from the shop, that piece was off the wood pile again. Our 5 y/o Pyr female Abby came up, fitted her mouth around it to get a good grip then picked up her "chew toy" to carry it to her favorite spot in the yard. Silly thing. Our first dog was a GSD/Airedale mix, Miss Gretchen, and she too loved to play with firewood. I wish we could have trained these pups to carry wood TO the pile not out of it. Abby is a funny, quirky dog that does her job well. Gretchen was my friend and protector when DH was out of the house for 16 years but when he was home, she much preferred his company.

My son in law had to banish their Boarder Collie to the house when they cut firewood. Every time they threw a cut to size log in the trailer, Chica would jump in the trailer and bring the log back to them. Unfortunately, she never tired of the game.

Myson's 3 Labs are all in love with wood. They won't even leave the partially burned, huge pieces that are down in the fire pit alone. He finds them all over the yard!

Dogs like firewood. I was cutting a tree on the hill . Then I would give a push and send it down the hill.. The heelers got in on it. I laughed till I cried. The one made a pile on the hillside and the other one followed to the gate. The a big piece was sent rollin and here came the does bouncing and running over the hill. I let out a shriek "the goats " and Catlane raced to the chunk threw her shoulder against it in time to keep it from hitting one of the does. Needless to say ,. I stopped for the day!
