Breed discrimination! As a groomer I can tell you that more people are bitten by Dachshunds and Chihuahuas than any other breed. That being said, the breeds mentioned should only be owned by someone who understands them and can handle them.

Years ago, a young couple brought a doe to our house to breed to my buck. They let their Chow out of the truck and I told them he had to go back in. I was assured he wouldn't hurt anything. I told them I knew he wasn't going to hurt anything because he was going back into their truck. I got a little more argument. I told them to put both the dog and the goat back into their truck because they couldn't follow my instructions. This time they realized I meant business. The dog went back into the truck and the goat got bred. The next year, the same couple asked to bring a doe to be bred. This time no dog but the husband had all these fresh scars up and down both arms. When I commented on what buzz saw he'd run into, he laughed sheepishly. He told me that the same Chow had attacked him damaging both arms. Then he said I should see his back! WHAT? I asked how long it took them to get the dog to a vet for euthanasia. Nope, no euthanasia. THEY WERE USING HIM AS A STUD DOG AND SELLING THE PUPPIES. Want to talk about an irresponsible owner? You can't even remotely call them "breeders." Fortunately, they didn't call me about stud service for their doe the third year. Do you suppose they got the idea I disapproved of their animal management practices? If they didn't, they weren't very perceptive. We have owned one pit mix. I've already told how she was a little starving thing when she showed up on our front porch in a rain storm. Two days later she got between me and a guy who claimed to want to paint our barn. He left when I pointed out what her breed was and that as a stray, I knew nothing about her. She turned out to be a great family dog, good when off our property but I never trusted her when we had company. She died in my arms several years later of kidney failure. I wouldn't have accepted $1000 for her but you couldn't give me another unless it was a hero dog like Rascal.

My hero dog was a big Irish Setter. Shocking, right? He was so gentle, great with kids and other dogs. He could carry an egg in his mouth without breaking it, (but he learned if he dropped an egg on cement it would break and then he would eat it). He bit two people and they both deserved it.

If it is the insurance companies refusing to insure these dogs it's because of how much money they have to pay out on the dogs' behalf. Of the banned breeds, I would own a Dobermann. Only a well bred Dobermann bred for temperament.

That's the problem with the breeds listed, they are not being bred with temperament as the most important criteria. They are all dogs that the backyard breeders love to raise. mogal, I totally agree with you about the irresponsibility of owners. Years ago, I had a pony for sale. When the family showed up over 2 hours late for our appointment, I told them that their 5 kids could not walk around the farm as we were a working farm, and they could get hurt. Of course, the parents agreed, and not 5 minutes later their little brats had cornered my old hound dog who was trying to get away and accidentally knocked one of the kids down. No serious damage done, but right then I told those people that getting a pony for their kids would be a disaster. If the kids couldn't follow directions and the parents couldn't keep control, then a pony was an accident looking for a place to happen. I flatly refused to even show them the pony and sent them on their way. Not only does someone need to determine if people are qualified to own these breeds, someone should be checking to see if they should be allowed to reproduce!

I commented in front of a friend that a certain family in our community was too stupid to breed. The friend cracked me up when she said they were so stupid, all they COULD do was breed.
I've actually banned children from our place. Sometimes it's only one unruly child*, sometimes all the siblings. *I'm thinking of one particular little boy, now a grown man who was the most sadistic little (choose your own word here) you ever saw. And his folks never said beans to him when he was mean to one of my animals. Nope, he got banned. He should be about 40 by now. I shudder to think what his kids are/were like.

inalienable unable to be taken away from or given away by the possessor.
Yet we execute people.
But the right to procreate does seem inalienable, subject to an individual being able to keep herself/himself from being executed.

Don't know the systems here in the US, but when I worked in UK there were pregnant women whose infants were to be removed from the delivery room given the woman's maltreatment of prior children.
I heard most bites are from golden retrievers just based on numbers- them being the highest percent of dogs owned. But it's sort of like saying "Blacks aren't imprisoned more, there are more White than Black people in prison" when the point is there are fewer Blacks in the US than White so that is expected, but the RATES are different and that's why some suspect racism. So fewer pets are those breeds, but a bigger rate of them make insurance companies have to spend money. And spending money is what motivates them- why young people and boys pay higher car insurance than older folk and girls.
I always say if insurance companies had to pay out if my firearm injured someone, even if it was stolen (but I hadn't reported it stolen) and sold black market to some criminal, then firearm regulations would be unneeded- only hardened criminals and very wealthy people could afford the insurance to own a firearm, and you can bet parents who wanted to keep their insurance would be dang sure their temperamental teenagers wouldn't be able to be the next school shooter with Mom's or Dad's weapon. And the police would hear a lot quicker when someone couldn't locate their weapon, and we'd be more careful loaning them out.
Look at cars- sure criminals do what they want with their cars, but most people are careful to keep theirs insured and maybe make junior pay the higher costs of him driving. And try to avoid anything else that'll raise their rates.

Insurance companies rely on actuaries and data. They likely aren’t prohibiting these breeds for anything except claims. Living on the coast my homeowners rates are skyrocketing and it’s often hard to get coverage. I accept this as my price for choosing to live here. I recently viewed a home closer to the beach but found my homeowners insurance would be in $12,000 per year range. Having a dangerous breed or a car with a big engine or living in a coastal community causes insurance companies to pay out.

Buying a car today, at least in Alabama, the state tax is paid AFTER trade in. So if I traded in every year I'd just be paying the state tax on, say, $10,000 a year despite driving all that time- might not be the same in all states, but is this just because they already got their tax on the traded in car? Only have to pay sales tax on the increase in value of your automobiles?

You’re paying a sales tax on the unpaid balance when you purchase it. $30,000 car minus a previously taxed trade in of $20,000 leaves a taxable balance of $10,000. It’s been this way in every state I’ve lived in. I find it makes sense if you stop and think about it. My last van was sold outright so not a Trade in that cost another $650 or so in sales tax.
