Were somewhat frequently referred to when I was growing up. I haven't heard the term used in many, many years. In the Depression many poor people used the same bone for multiple meals. How long ago, if ever, has someone here used the same bone for two different meals?

I use all of the soup bones around here twice. Second trip is onto a hot fire, then into the garden.

I don't think that our friends in Arviat, Nunavut use bones in soups. Nut, they do crack the leg bones of caribou and harvest the marrow. It;s suppose to be a real treat. They also simmer/roast caribou heads to make a type of soup. I'm not sure if they use them more than once, tho.

When we get our beef I always ask for all the soup bones.

I simmer the bones for at least eight hours in the crock pot. Only once, then I save the bones in the freezer until trash day. It's great for making rice.
