That ties a 100-year-old record, set in August 1923.
What caused the record heat 100 years ago?
By 1920, the United States was producing about 1.3 million barrels of oil a day.
U.S. crude oil production fell by 8% in 2020, the largest annual decrease on record. U.S. crude oil production averaged 11.3 million barrels per day.
Those people did not give up their gas stoves.

Phoenix Breaks Heat Record Set in 1974. Phoenix blazed past a milestone set half a century ago for consecutive days with 110-degree or higher temperatures.
Was the 1974 record caused by cows and fossil fuels? If so, why did it take so long to get back to this level?
