www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1lYGUROZ_PgFor those will dial-up, this video shows a scaled-down version of a radio-controlled, fully operational (minus weapon systems) of a jet turbine SR-71 Blackbird fighter plane. Bit out of most folks' price range; doubt if I could justify the fuel costs!!! But talk about the 'cool' factor....

I remember an interview with an SR-70 pilot who said his plane flamed out over Kentucky, so he landed in Arizona.

Back in the mid 1970s my father-in-law build several radio controlled model planes. He only built them but he never would fly one of them. He let other guys fly them at the meets. We were at one of the meets and they were doing a hands off contest. You get your plane up there flying in nice trim then hand off the controls and see how long it will be before you grab it back. There was a guy there with a beautiful P-51 Mustang. There is no way that plane should have been entered in this contest but he did it. He only just let go of the controls and that very fast plane started into a hard nose dive that he couldn't pull it out of. Yes as that man came back from the plane wreck with a hand full of motor and servos I could see the tears running down his face.

The SR 70 "Blackbird" isn't a fighter, and has no weapons It's a high altitude recon plane that replaced the U-2 in the 60's. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_SR-71_BlackbirdI'll admit it..... I DID add that part about 'fighter' without even thinking about it. But I bet it would be awesome with a pair of missles under each wing!
