Is it okay for me to ask where you buy your clear jel or is it not allowed here?

I order mine from Amazon or Bulk Foods. I can't find it anywhere locally.

I received my clear jel today. I can't wait for strawberries to come on so I can make strawberry pie filling. Strawberry/rhubard sounds excellent right about now. In the fall I will get fresh apples and making pie filling. I am excited!

In the fall I will get fresh apples and making pie filling. I am excited! That package arrived pretty fast. There is nothing like canned pie filling from your own trees and plants. We had a hard frost last year when the trees had flowers on them so we ended up with no fruit. We are down to cherry pie filling. The trees are loaded this year and we should be able to can enough pie filling for several years. Have fun making you pie filling. Don't forget to make some Rhubarb/Strawberry jam also.

I'm blessed to live in a community with an abundance of farm stores that carry anything used in canning in bulk. We also have a great grocery store called Shady Maple (well known to many in PA) that carries a huge variety of bulk baking, canning and regular cooking items. They also carry a unique variety of fruits and vegetables I can't find most other places.
Shady Maple is cheaper than Kauffman's and has a better selection but they don't do mail order unfortunately.
Someone once told me of a bulk foods place in the upper western/central part of the state but I can't recall the name.

I looked at buying some Clear Jel but it seemed expensive to me, so I just pack my fruit (cherries, peaches, apples or blueberries etc.) in a light syrup. Then I can just open a jar, drain and then make pie, applesauce, cobbler, coffee cake or whatever I want. I use the syrup in some of my things I make.

I do put up a run or so of fruit in Therm Flo, which I buy at the Mennonite grocery. But that's just for convenience. I mostly prefer to can in syrup, then drain the syrup into a saucepan, heat, and thicken with organic cornstarch. Then I can cool it, fold in the fruit, and use for whatever purpose required. I don't care for the GMO content of the Therm Flo/Clear Jel stuff.
I also use Pomona's pectin for jams and jellies. It's so much easier to use than the usual pectins, and doesn't require sugar to make it set up. So you can sweeten a little or a lot, with honey or *cough cough!* sucralose (hey, some folks are diabetic and want to do that), and the gel is independent of that. No GMO dextrose added.

I happen to get mine online at Kitchen Krafts (dot com), which is where I also purchase Gel-EZ powdered pectin by the pound. I imagine I might find it cheaper if I researched, don't know for sure....I am just used to going there and purchasing.
