Have you ever started a project- beautiful pattern, beautiful yarn.....and yet struggle to finish because it's just plain boring to knit? I'm in the middle of one now and I really, really need to get it finished so I can move on to more interesting things.
I'm doing a linen stitch cowl/scarf (I haven't decided which it will be). I think the yarn is Madelinetosh. I love how it looks. I love how it feels....and I'd so love to have it finished!!
What do you do? Go ahead and start another project and use the mindless project for those times you need 'mindless"? or do you wait and finish it up?
I always finish. If I set something down, I rarely- ever- pick it up again.

There are times when you just need the boring, mindless project. Are you going to love the finished project? Or would/could the yarn be put to better use? I am one that just forces my self through. I offer myself a reward if I get it finished..like more yarn. You can set a goal of X number of stitches a day. You can start a better project, but only work on it after you have done your X stitches. I'm trying.

I know....this one will be a beautiful cowl when I am finished. Or if there's enough yarn, I'll wear it as a scarf. I love the colors, I love the yarn. I love the linen stitch. I just don't love working on it. I found this out making an entire sweater out of the moss stitch too. I'll push through and finish then get back to some color work.

Luckily for me my son likes to knit but doesn't think he could make socks...sure he could but won't try. So He knits the boring top ribbing and I do the heel and set up for foot and he finishes to the toe! Co-operation!
Right now I'm making a simple cardigan in a color I like to have one handy for chilly days....but the pattern is really too easy so I've set myself to knit thru the evening news every day and then I can put it down if I want. Knit top down so already to finishing the body and at this rate it will be done by fall. Unfinished projects bug me to the point that if I don't think I'll finish it I'll tear it out and put the yarn aside!

My dh's socks. He only wants gray yarn, ribbed leg, and he needs so many of them. It's all he wears from about the end of October to April. So, so boring to knit.

If I was a guy I'd hide crazy socks under my jeans but my DH only likes plain, too. Boring. Only so much you can do with fancy stitches or cables. I just remind myself that he loves to show people his socks and brag on me!
All my socks are bright. Had to push myself to finish the Army drab brown/tan/olive green yarn my son picked out. His wife is a cinch...loves color so hers were the colors of the sea. She only crochets but I'm slowly teaching her to knit.

I'd be tempted to knit socks in a different color and then dye it....
I finished my little project. I'll try to get a picture up today. We have 10 teen boys over today to "play"....which means a complete overhaul of the house and yard.
Shearer coming tomorrow for our first alpaca shearing.....guess I get to clean the barn today too.

Though I can use colour. they all have to be the same, ribbed cuff, plain everywhere else. and why can't he have smaller feet! (Or learn how to knit himself)

Let's don't talk about big feet. My grandpa once told me that if I grew into mine, I'd be 6' 10"....I'm 5'7"...
