Got a lot of oranges from the produce day. They don't keep long without refrigeration, even in our springhouse. So today I am making applesauce, applesauce you say, what does that have to do with oranges or chutney? I was hungry. I used 12 apples and 4 oranges in the applesauce, 2 gallons total. Sweetie mixed up a batch of pancakes. I love applesauce on pancakes....even with oranges.
OK, thinking. I have cranberries in the freezer, make chutney. Grandma made chutney. Memories. Anyway, my aunt passed away Saturday. Cousin and I emailed back and forth, talked on the phone for an hour, too. I looked in Grandma's recipe box. Remembrance Service on Saturday by the lake in Centralia, Washington. We will head up Friday, stay the night. Raining today seems appropriate. Sorry I wander.
SOOO I made chutney
3 oranges, peeled, tough membrane removed, chopped 1/2 cup orange juice 12 ounces, cranberries 1/2 cup sugar 1 large Golden Delicious apple, peeled, cored, chopped 1/2 cup raisins 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 cup honey
Cook cranberries 5 minutes with the sugar orange juice and raisins, add rest of ingredients, except nuts, and cook until berries pop (3-5 mins) mix in nuts, cool, refrigerate....James

That sounds delicious and other than all that chopping (lol) pretty easy. Can you can this?

That is sooo different to what I call chutney. which is cooked for hours and lasts years. Though the ingredients (- the nuts + a lot more vinegar) are close enough for it to be related.

Jwal, that recipe looks great.
But the food novice in me says "What do you do with it?" (chutney?)
Other than pancakes & waffles?

This one would be hands down delicious with pork. Without a doubt, YUMMO.

Mmmm...that sounds really good. Isn't chutney used somewhat as a relish?

There are many different kinds of chutney, I make a couple different ones. I use on meat mostly.
