I read that those yellow vanilla scented car fresheners will keep the flies at bay. I would like to ask if anyone has a solution to this as well as mosquitoes. After all the rain they are becoming abundant. Bug zapper??? I put a fan in the coop yesterday.

Make sure you don't have any old buckets or what not, filled with water. Crazy how many mosquitoes can hatch out of the most tiny amount of water. I use Fly traps, like these.. Both work very well. I am also using Fly predators....which will work very well... over time, that is. Just have to make sure to put them out, where the chickens can't get to them.

Never have seen ones like that. Interesting. I am leaning toward a bug zapper.

Tractor Supply and most of our local feed stores carry those type fly catchers. I love them:-)

The only bad thing about bug zappers is they kill the good bugs too, like lightening bugs.

I have read to mop with regular pine sol & you won't have fly issues. Our chickens keep the fly population down.
