Everything old is new again. I was talking with my grown son and he said he was eating a dreamsicle, he'd never had one before, with his roommate, also enjoying them as well. Even though we (me and DH) had these growing up, we haven't had them in years. So I was searching around on Amazon and found Orangesicle Pillsbury cake mixes and Orangesicle Pillsbury frosting. Well, that is not something you find every day. I had to get it because we'll never find it here locally. I figured the frosting would taste, artificial, I don't like most artificial flavors and I thought that I probably wouldn't like it, I was very wrong! OH MY it is amazing (and I'm not a big sweet eater). I made some cookies from a white cake mix, very cakey, then sandwiched some of that frosting between two of them. I'm telling you the frosting tastes like real oranges and cream, it's wonderful. It reminds me of those dreamsicles from 40 years ago. I snooped around more and found recipes for making a dreamsicle flavored cake, they said to add one can of orange soda to one white cake mix (I could use my white cake recipe). I haven't tried it, but, it's on the list of things I must do. (I own no stock in Pillsbury, in fact I like to make everything from scratch, I just couldn't find any orangesicle scratch around here.) Pillsbury also make a Key Lime Frosting, I haven't opened them yet. I'm very excited about this. Can you tell I don't get out much?

Funny, we had the produce day on Friday, March 27th, my birthday. There were both of those cake mixes there, in a bag with frosting and a birthday card. Special day. And yes both were very good and I am not a key lime type of guy. I did eat several pieces though. Later we were in Safeway to pick up some meds for Sweetie after her tooth extraction and there they were. Didn't buy any though....James

My eyesight bit blurry from the diabetes pumping my blood sugar up and down, so confused the two threads. Thought somebody was putting freezer-burnt salmon coated with orange flavored icing, on a stick, for that new cooling summer taste sensation..... yum!

They do make a sugar free cake mix now and you could put a sugar free orange soda in it. I tried the yellow sugar free cake and it is pretty good.
