I'm SO happy! I have bees again. My cousin had bees move into his trailer. NOT good! He's deathly allergic to bee stings and ended up in the hospital the last 2 times he got stung. I went over there last Saturday and did a cut out, then Sunday night picked them up and brought them to my farm. It was definitely a win-win situation. He got rid of the bees and I got them! I'm heading out to the farm tomorrow morning to do a post cut out check. I was REALLY lucky on this job because the bees were inside a cabinet, inside the house, with the bees entrance under the trailer. All I had to do is pry up the floor of the cabinet. It also meant that I was able to do almost the whole job sitting down! Thank goodness because I could never have stood up that long with my health issues! My wonderful son helped me move the hive Sunday. Bless him! I couldn't have lifted the thing myself as it totally filled two boxes. Those bees must have been there at least 4 months! All the comb was new and soft. All I had to pay was gas to get out there and a mild case of heat stroke. (90 degree weather + no ac in house + full bee suit + 6 hours work = heat stroke I need a cooling jacket and a bee vac! Oh, and this was my first ever cut out!

Hi Hobbit lady! Thanks for asking. They are doing well. I just went out to the farm last weekend to check on them and see if they needed another box. They are in two med boxes and have attached all the cut out comb to the frames and built out all but a few of the frames. They had lots of brood and honey but the girls were quite cranky. Maybe it was the weather.
When do you think your long hive will be ready for bees?

Hi buffy- I'm so glad your bees are going great for you! I figured that, since you had them all set up so well, but still wanted to ask. It must feel so good to see all the comb attached and progress. Congrats on a great job of homing them too! Because I used smelly enamel spray paint (except the entry front) I'm letting the hive "cure" for a week, and hosing it off as well...I already can't smell it (put my nose right on it and it smelled more like wood to me through both layers of paint!) but I dunno about the bees sensitivity,so I'm not taking chances. I Know it's not wise to use oil based paint on a hive. It's Ready though !!!....just gonna drill a couple of vent holes, wine cork size, in the back of the upper box with a little screen over them as a "just in case" if at some point I want some venting. I'll post the last pictures on the other thread when it in place! We took that project so slow and easy and it was so much fun for both myself and DH that I sorta Miss fussing over the thing... he/he. I think the nuc is Darn ready, so I'll hive them the same day or day after we set it in place.

It was just a joke... Although I do have a bad case of poison ivy or sumac, I guess that could count as hives.
