Read it many years ago, when I was still trapped in the big city and dreaming of the homesteading lifestyle.
A few of my co-workers happened to spot the title and you would have thought that I was preparing to marry one of the beasts!!!
Anyway.... it all came flooding back to me this afternoon, when I went out to grab a few minutes of relaxation with my herd, while they took a siesta-break and lay down to chew their cuds. However one young doeling was a bit more motivated than the rest, and I noticed that she was stripping and devouring the outer epidermis layer of a very large poison ivy vine encircling a nearby tree. Could also note, that she was eyeing the vast green growth above her head and just out reach of her goatie lips.....but she made the most of what she was able to get at. Fortunately, she isn't quite tame enough, to come over and give her 'daddy' some goat sugar..... but I've got (2) boys; who are half-brothers of differnt ages and sizes, and who I've raised as bottle babies, that do love to snuggle and rub against me, the one likes to crawl across my prone body, then paw at me for more attention and generally be as affectionate as any goat is able of (or willing to be.) Hopefully as well, they weren't partakers of that poison ivy bark....
I guess we'll soon find out.

Haven't read it, but it sounds like reasonable advice.

Between me, the dogs, and the goats, DW can't seem to stay out of the poison ivy. I'd pass on the hug from me, the lap time from the dig, and the kiss from the goats right now.
Eta: and don't do any of my laundry, either.

I haven't read the book, but our family motto used to be, "You haven't lived until you've kissed a goat on the lips!" Luckily, we have no poison ivy here.

Got drunk with a Buck one time. Good Guy until one day he got me down. Like to never got away from him. My Grandkids had been out with my Goats, told my wife to not let them out there.

I'm "assuming" that you're commenting concerning portions of the book that you've read?
Otherwise, the remark must be related over my concern for my goats, when Rockpile is around?
Not to worry . ..... he'd never get close to my wild buck!

The letter carrier brought the book today. It's wonderful, well-written, witty, and wise. Going to go read some more once I poke a few bean seeds into the bed I cleared today. Thanks for the suggestion, copperkid3!
