We finished off our spring lambing season rather late this year last night. We generally breed for February/March lambs, but these 3 ewes scanned as open this winter so I threw them back in with the ram for June babies rather then carry almost 1/2 of my Shetland ewes through another year with no babies. 1st we had a surprise baby born 5/30. We are awaiting DNA tests to determine who her daddy is. Her mom, Eskimo (who is still a baby herself at just barely 1 year old), got bred through the fence. 15 years of raising sheep and that is the 1st time that has happened. Marimba, she's a spunky little thing. Myrtle lambed on the 6/16 with twin boys. She had a solid pattern Moorit (brown) and a Moorit double pattern Gulmoget (dark colored fleece, light underbelly)/Katmoget (light fleece, dark underbelly) Saxophone (solid moorit) and his brother with no name yet. These pictures show the two different patterns that are combined on the ram lamb above. Both patterns have distinctive facial markings. Gulmoget Katmoget (this is the sire to the lambs this year) Yesterday when I got home from work I found Eloise with her brand-new twins. Her boy is black spotted, but his fleece will turn gray since he carries the Ag or gray gene. Her ewe lamb is a lovely light gray Katmoget who also carries Ag. The last ewe, Signe, lambed later that evening. She also had a ram and a ewe. Dark Katmoget ewe Black spotted ram
