I had an open dairy cow that I was planning on having bred in June. I had an accidental breeding last week. She is usually settles the first time. I really don't want to do it, but I also don't want to milk her in the winter.
When do I lute?
How badly will this mess with her heat cycles when she cleans out?

I think I just might let it go. I do know what you mean about milking in Jan. and Feb. though.

Could you graft another calf on her so you don't have to milk? Calves are cheapest at that time of year. Sell the calf in march at prime price and start milking her then?
To answer your question you lute at 10-14 days post breeding to dump the pregnancy. May not work though. She should cycle in 21 days after abortion.
