Numb rescued Marianne from the stockyards! Hard to believe it's been a year already. Here's our sweet girl now: She's due on Aug. 4!

Nice socks. Anklets on front, knee-highs on back.
@numb, did you know she was going to be at the sale barn? Or was this a serendipitous cow-saving?
Eta: check-that. Was she on the fateful "last-walk" down that ramp?

Even worse ... she had already been sold to a buyer from the Cargill slaughterhouse!! Here is a link to the whole saga, which I had written at the time: www.hearthandgardens.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=691If Numb never did another thing for me, I'd love him forever, just because he saved Marianne!

Just out of curiosity...
....This is not the same cow whose life was saved, written about in one forum, then the life saving account was stolen and posted into another forum by a sock puppet named Alice, found by the original author (that would be willowgirl) who then asked about the theft of her material in the original forum, which started the whole flare-up that brought most of us to this forum?
... Or was it a calf? I cannot remember.
I was just curious if this is the cow in question?
ETA: comfortablynumb, I think you will have to finish the house. I do not foresee you getting out of that.

Does this mean I dont have to finish the house? Get back to work, Mister! (Nice try, though.) TRellis, you're correct -- the cow in the "Alice" incident was Kalindi, a different cow from the dairy where I work. She's the one in my avatar.

Thanks! She is a young thing yet ... will be 5 in December. This will be her third calf. Crossing my fingers that all goes well! I AI'ed her to a Jersey and can't wait to see what the calf looks like.

Thanks BFF!
We had a cow go down at work last week about 6 days after calving. We initially treated her for milk fever, but she didn't respond. My boss thought on Friday that another cow may have ridden her and injured her, because when he stood her up with the hip lifters, she seemed to have a pinched nerve. Poor Juanita! I haven't been back to work since, so I don't know the outcome, but of course now I'm terribly worried that Marianne will have complications of some sort. We were so happy to settle her, but it's not like we really needed a calf (who will turn into a cow we'll have to feed forever, LOL!).
I'll be biting my fingernails to the quick until she is safely (I hope) delivered! 29 days and counting ...

I sure will! I can't wait to see what SHE looks like. (I have decided SHE will be a heifer, lol.) 20 days and counting!! I can't imagine how Marianne could get any bigger! Yesterday we were working on the side of the house, and she came barreling around the corner, full-tilt ... she looked like a bowling ball on legs.

I also read over there that numb needed pasteurized milk ......... Our 5 kids were all raised on raw milk (not pasteurized). We sometimes wonder if it affected their growth. How tall might they have gotten drinking "healthy" milk? The 3 girls and 2 boys range in height from 6 feet up to 6 foot 11" ........ Do you happen to be Dutch? My husband is first-generation Dutch. At just under 6', he is the shortest of his many brothers. His 13 year old brother is taller already! He's got a couple 6'9" cousins. He was raised on milk straight from the bulk tank too.

Ive seen what unpasteurized milk can do to a person so I will pass on the raw milk. Besides it has to be heated that hot to make cheese so... it gets done anyway.
