I need a new machine and have asked DH to get me one for my birthday in September. I'm now on the hunt for an affordable machine that will last. I do very basic sewing so I don't need anything fancy. Does anyone have the Janome 2212? I found it on Amazon for $149.00 and that's about what I want to spend, although I'm willing to go up to $200 if I need to in order to get a good machine. Feel free to suggest other machines if you have an affordable one that you love. TIA

It's hard to go wrong with a Janome.

You might check Kens in Muscleshores, AL for good prices on Janone machines. They are a great on line store, as well as b&m. I would also looking at good used machine. The older machines have all or most metal parts and will last forever. I'm not familiar with that Janome, however I do have a 6500, as well as a serger and embroidery machine. .Janome makes good quality machines in the mid and higher end, I'm not sure about the cheaper ones.
At under $200.00 I would look for a Bernina 730 or. Singer 301A. Both are very good machines, the Bernina is a zigzag and has some decorative stitches, the Singer is a straight stitch only. Both have very good stitch quality.

I looked at several reviews of the 2212, and other than it was said to be loud, the reviewers liked it.

Thanks y'all. He decided that I needed a machine that did more stitches, but I wasn't willing to go up on the price too much. He got me a Brother SQ9185. It has a ton of stitches and I hate to admit it but he was right. How did I ever sew anything without overlock stitches?! It's very lightweight so I assume that it's mostly plastic construction, but it's really opened my eyes on how much more I can do. I also got some cash and gift cards for my birthday so I'm headed to the fabric store...
