I know this question has been asked probably a dozen times or more but back then I didn't have any tallow so I don't remember what the answer might have been. When I make soap would I be able to use tallow in place of the lard oz for oz or should I run it through the lye calculator? I now have plenty of tallow. Those of you that use tallow in your soaps, does it leave your skin feeling as soft as soap made with lard?

The sap numbers are very close. Lard 0.1380 Beef Tallow 0.1405
It depends on how big the recipe is. I have a recipe using 22.4 ounces of lard, when I plug in beef tallow, it still uses 22.4 ounces.
I have tallow put aside (in the freezer for soap), I haven't made it yet. I would expect it to be just a nice for the skin as lard soap (our standard soap has 40% lard).

Thanks Feather. My recipe uses a little over 15 ounces of lard and I guess you'd could say it's a smaller recipe.
