I think it was in reference to that balloon of bovine hot air that Planned Parenthood had placed close by, where you could both hear & smell it as it was being ignited. Sometimes it has a "popping" sound.... sometimes not. But it ALWAYS smells bad.

So, Zimbabwe is not going to attempt to extradite Dr. Palmer and they also say he broke no laws. So much for all the complete nonsense that has been posted on this subject. www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-34508269

Wow. Talk about being RUDE but I guess one only gets Tattled on if it's politically related.
I don't like trophy hunters. I think if you aren't going to eat it, if it is not endangering you or your's, leave it alone. Senseless killing solves nothing. I also believe in a clean kill and a lion that slowly bled out over 40hrs wasn't clean.
Now, that being said, I will completely agree that the media hypes a lot of stuff up and this is completely one of them. Did the dentist get more hassle than what was probably necessary? More than likely, but I do not believe his hands are completely clean here either.
We don't have to agree, but we can do it respectfully and Molly was not being respected in some of your posts. I will state that if no one else will.

I'm also not very fond of people that pontificate on subjects about which they know very little and most of that is wrong.

I would be most pleased to share the opprobrium with the rest of the rational people. Just had to go look up the meaning of that word, before giving you a thumbs up; hadn't seen it before and although I was pretty sure of what it implied, wanted to be sure. Always like finding "new" words to use later; that's how the language stays afresh and non-stagnant. However, it's going to take some doing to try and fit it in if I go out tonight and order Chinese food.....

I read in the USA we have more half dead lions in cages than are in the wild world wide.
Maybe our outrage is misplaced.

Figures and stats that I've seen, show that there are more TIGERS in the U.S., than in the wild. One source even went so far as to make the claim, that there are more tigers in TEXAS, than in the wild!!! (I personally don't believe that statement, and I doubt that the author of that link, can prove it either.) Most of the sources that I was able to read, however, stated that there are also more wild cats in captivity in the U.S., than in the wild. And I have no problem believing that statement. But I could find nothing that claimed what you stated above. It could be true or not. Guess it's up to you to provide your own source on the matter. Let the outrage continue.... www.worldwildlife.org/stories/more-tigers-in-american-backyards-than-in-the-wildwww.care2.com/causes/theres-more-captive-tigers-in-texas-than-in-the-wild.htmlnationalzoo.si.edu/SCBI/inthefield/lions13.cfm

That would be really interesting but I'm sure it would be an uphill battle to make that happen. The truth is that there are several animals that would be past the sustainable point and on the road to extinction except for game ranches in the US. They don't get any credit for it of course.

Like Wanderer101, I too have hunted Africa.
Every animal I shot with only one exception (a Jackal) was eaten. The Jackals are akin to coyotes here and a much hated killer of domestic animals.
I am not sure why the native folks did not want to eat a Jackal, when they would eat a Baboon...but I am not going to argue with them!
I guess my point is, trophies get eaten, too. The locals in Africa were very happy not only to receive employment as a result of foreign hunters visiting, but also thrilled to get some much-needed protein.
Those I know who have killed Lion say it is very good on the plate.

Several years ago, cousin's son went bow hunting in Namibia. His wife videotaped all the kills. One was a big boar wart hog that took off running into the bush. Soon the sound of jackals were heard and then the guide saying that it was a sow. Then a correction in that the jackals had quickly eaten the testicles! Martin

I had one PH that told me everything I shot was a pregnant female. His idea of a joke I guess but it certainly slammed me the first few times he said it. Great PH but he had a warped sense of humor.
